Savings on fees at other ATMs

Your credit union helps you save two ways on ATM fees for checking withdrawals when you need to get cash at non-VACU ATMs.

  • You get 4 checking withdrawals per month at non-VACU ATM free of network ATM fees from VACU. (Other ATM owners may have a fee, but learn about rebates below.)
  • You can also enjoy up to $8 per month in rebates for ATM fees assessed by other ATM owners if you have either a qualifying direct deposit or 15 debit card purchase transactions that month1.
  • 1 A qualifying direct deposit is an electronic deposit of your salary, retirement or other regular monthly income totaling $100 or more, posted to the same checking account in the same calendar month in which the ATM fees were incurred. Debit card purchase transactions are those for which you use your debit card to pay for things from your checking account. They must be posted to the same checking account in the same calendar month in which the ATM fees were incurred.

More tips for avoiding ATM fees

  • Use fee-free ATMs at VACU and all Wawa and Sheetz stores in Virginia.
  • Get cash back at stores when you use your debit card and PIN for purchases.
  • Pay with your debit card to reduce the need for cash.
  • Avoid a lot of small withdrawals – get more cash per trip to an ATM.

FAQs

How do I deposit cash?

  1. Insert a stack of up to 50 bills flat, in any direction, into the cash deposit slot (bills only—no coins).
  2. The ATM automatically counts your cash.
  3. Your total cash amount appears on the screen for you to verify.
  4. The number and bill denominations appear on your receipt.

How do I deposit checks?

  1. Insert your check into the check deposit slot face up. The ATM shows you the scanned check image on screen.
  2. Manually enter the amount of the check for verification.
  3. Repeat this for each check you wish to deposit. Then verify the amount on the screen.
  4. Your receipt lists each check you deposited and your total deposit. You may choose to either have check images printed on your receipt or print just a summary of the deposit.

Does the ATM take coins?

No, coins will jam the machine and damage it.

Can I deposit checks and cash together?

Yes. You can deposit both during the same transaction, but you will do so one at a time, in their individual check and cash slots.

Can I verify the accuracy of the deposit before I complete the transaction?

Yes. You will see each check on the screen and be asked to verify the amount. For cash deposits, total cash is displayed for your acceptance.

Why didn’t the ATM accept my check/cash deposit?

A check may be rejected if the account and/or routing number is printed too lightly for the scanner to verify or if the written amounts are not legible enough for the ATM to read. If a dollar bill is worn, torn, folded or has extraneous marks on it, it may be rejected by the ATM.
