VACU Strikes Out Hunger with Contributions to Food Banks

Strike Out Hunger Volunteers

Virginia Credit Union is contributing more than $13,000 to address hunger in Central Virginia and the Fredericksburg region with contributions to Feed More and the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank.

The contributions are the result of the Strike Out Hunger program, a multi-year effort to support food banks tied to the minor league baseball clubs in both communities. Virginia Credit Union counts strike outs from the Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Fredericksburg Nationals to calculate the season-ending contributions.

For every strike out, Virginia Credit Union makes a $5 donation. This year, Virginia Credit Union will contribute $6,995 to Feed More and $6,045 to the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank.

“Food insecurity is a reality for too many in the communities our credit union serves,” says Chris Shockley, Virginia Credit Union President/CEO. ”We are glad to do our part to raise awareness of the need and contribute funds that will help.”

Members and employees of Virginia Credit Union also do their part through food drives, matching gift programs, and volunteer work days where food is sorted, processed and packaged.

A financial cooperative serving more than 320,000 members, Virginia Credit Union offers a variety of affordable banking services, loans, mortgages, and free financial education resources, with a focus on helping people be more confident with their finances. Virginia Credit Union is an equal housing opportunity lender and is federally insured by NCUA.
