Michelle Jenkins, a special education science teacher, has been named a recipient of Virginia Credit Union’s Teacher of the Quarter award program.

Ms. Jenkins teaches grades 6 – 12 at the John G. Wood School at the Virginia Home for Boys and Girls. The school is a private, nonprofit alternative school for youth who face challenges in succeeding in a public school setting.

Ms. Jenkins was nominated for the award by a coworker, Melissa Mariner, who describes her coworker as “the most passionate teacher I have ever met who believes all children deserve love and someone who believes in them. She works tirelessly because she believes so much in their potential.”

The program recognizes K-12 teachers in Virginia and carries with it a $250 check from Virginia Credit Union.

“We are glad to recognize these gifted educators,” said Chris Shockley, Virginia Credit Union’s President/CEO. “We believe that education is fundamental to success, and it is always exciting to hear the innovative ways teachers connect with students and share a love for learning in their classrooms.”

A financial cooperative serving more than 300,000 members, Virginia Credit Union offers a variety of affordable banking services, loans, mortgages, and free financial education resources, with a focus on helping people be more confident with their finances. Virginia Credit Union is an equal housing opportunity lender and is federally insured by NCUA.
