Amy Roman, a kindergarten teacher at Jacob L. Adams Elementary in Henrico County, has been named a recipient of Virginia Credit Union’s Teacher of the Quarter award program.

Ms. Roman was nominated for the award by Rachel Contreras, the parent of one of her students. “Ms. Roman is a fantastic teacher who goes above and beyond for her students -- teaching plays, and songs and many other special activities.”

The parent especially recognized Ms. Roman for creative lessons on the value of money.

“Teaching the children coin recognition and how to add and subtract coins is a special focus of hers. She gives the students print outs with pictures of the coins and does matching games with their values written out as numbers and number words. She also had the students write, practice, and perform a class play based on coins and adding them up.”

The Teacher of the Quarter program recognizes K-12 teachers and carries a $250 prize from Virginia Credit Union.

“We believe that education is fundamental to success, and we are glad to recognize these gifted educators,” said Chris Shockley, Virginia Credit Union’s President/CEO. “It is exciting to hear the innovative ways teachers connect with students and share a love for learning in their classrooms.”

A financial cooperative serving more than 320,000 members, Virginia Credit Union offers a variety of affordable banking services, loans, mortgages, and free financial education resources, with a focus on helping people be more confident with their finances.
