What is a "Member Share" and why do I need it?

When joining VACU you deposit $5 in a Member Share account. This separate $5 deposit represents your one share in the ownership of your credit union and is a requirement for membership.

I already belong to another credit union. Can I still join VACU?

Yes, you can join Virginia Credit Union too when you're eligible.

If I'm joining by mail, how do I know when my membership has been opened and what my account number is?

You'll receive by mail your account number, deposit receipt and important information about your account and the many services available to you. Please review the information and contact Member Services at (804) 323-6800 or (800) 285-6609 with any questions.

Once I join, how long do I have to wait to apply for a loan or credit card?

You can apply for credit at the same time you join. There is no waiting period.

If I change jobs, retire, move or graduate from college, can I still use VACU?

Yes, you're a member for life as long as you keep your accounts active and in good standing. Just call or email us if your situation is changing and we can advise you of the ways to use your credit union wherever you are.

I'm eligible to join VACU. Do my family members have to live in my same household to join too?

No, they don't as long as the relative is your spouse, child, grandchild, parent, grandparent, sister or brother.

I'm already a member. Can my cousin, aunt or uncle join, too, because of their relationship to me?

They do not qualify as your immediate family members. However, if they live in your household, they are eligible as members of your household. It's also possible they could become eligible through other VACU members in your family or other eligible groups. Contact Member Services at (804) 323-6800 or (800) 285-6609 for more information.
