For the second year in a row, Virginia Credit Union will be the title sponsor for the Virginia Credit Union Moonlight Ride to be held August 24 at Sports Backers Stadium.

The Moonlight Ride will feature a fun, 8-mile nighttime ride on a closed course through Richmond’s Northside and Lakeside neighborhoods beginning at 8:15 p.m. New for 2019 is a 28-mile evening ride for cyclists beginning at 5:00 p.m. Participants with children may also choose to participate in the popular 3-mile family ride at 8 p.m.

On the night of the event, Virginia Credit Union will have a tent with giveaways and information.

“The Moonlight Ride is such a popular event because it is such a fun way to experience the Richmond community while supporting the effort to make our community safer and more bike- and pedestrian-friendly,” said Glenn Birch, director of public relations for the credit union. “As title sponsor, we look forward to being at the event where we can interact with the community in a fun, relaxed setting.”

The Virginia Credit Union Moonlight Ride is different from any other biking event in the area.

“Riding at night is a fun and unique experience for Moonlight Ride participants,” said Pete Woody, PR and Communications Manager for Sports Backers. “You’ll see children, adults, and groups decorated in bright lights and matching costumes. People really get into it, and it’s a great celebration of active living that is in line with our mission at Sports Backers. And as an added bonus, it all ends with a street-party style festival back at Sports Backers Stadium.”

The charity partner of the Virginia Credit Union Moonlight Ride is Bike Walk RVA, an advocacy program of Sports Backers that is working to make the Richmond region more bike- and pedestrian-friendly.

A financial cooperative serving more than 280,000 members, Virginia Credit Union offers a variety of affordable banking services, loans, mortgages, and free financial education resources, with a focus on helping people grow more confident with their finances. Virginia Credit Union is an equal housing opportunity lender and is federally insured by NCUA.
