VACU Strikes Out Hunger with Contribution to Feed More

check presentation

Last night at The Diamond, Virginia Credit Union presented a $5,000 check to FeedMore to help strike out hunger in Central Virginia. Representatives of FeedMore and staff from Virginia Credit Union met on the field during the game between the Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

The contribution is part of Strike Out Hunger, a multi-year effort between the credit union, FeedMore and the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

For every strike out thrown by a Richmond Flying Squirrels pitcher, Virginia Credit Union makes a $5 donation. Now in its fifth year, the Strike Out Hunger program has produced more than $25,000 in contributions to FeedMore from Virginia Credit Union.

This season’s final tally could exceed $5,000. So far this season, the Richmond Flying Squirrels pitchers have thrown 876 strike outs. There are 24 more games to play in the regular season, which continues through Sept. 3.

The Strike Out Hunger program draws attention to the important work FeedMore does in the community. FeedMore is Central Virginia's hunger-relief leader made up of the Central Virginia Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and the Community Kitchen.

Members and employees of Virginia Credit Union also support FeedMore through food collections, volunteer work days and other efforts.

A financial cooperative serving more than 265,000 members, Virginia Credit Union offers a variety of affordable banking services, loans, mortgages, and free financial education resources, with a focus on helping people be more confident with their finances.
