Virginia Credit Union presented a check for $5,240 to Feed More to help strike out hunger in Central Virginia at the Diamond Wednesday evening. Representatives of Feed More and staff from Virginia Credit Union met on the field during the game between the Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Erie Seawolves.

The contribution is part of Strike Out Hunger, a multi-year effort between the credit union, Feed More and the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

For every strikeout thrown by a Richmond Flying Squirrels pitcher, Virginia Credit Union makes a $5 donation. Now in its fifth year, the Strike Out Hunger program has produced more than $30,000 in contributions to Feed More from Virginia Credit Union. This gift will help provide 120,000 meals to our hungry neighbors in Central Virginia.

This season’s final tally could grow even higher. So far this season, the Richmond Flying Squirrels pitchers have thrown 1,048 strikeouts. The regular season continues through September 2.

The Strike Out Hunger program calls attention to the important work Feed More does in the community. Feed More collects, prepares and distributes food to neighbors in need across 34 counties and cities in Central Virginia.

Members and employees of Virginia Credit Union also support Feed More through food collections, volunteer work days and other efforts.

A financial cooperative serving more than 285,000 members, Virginia Credit Union offers a variety of affordable banking services, loans, mortgages, and free financial education resources, with a focus on helping people be more confident with their finances.
