VACU Strikes Out Hunger with $5,395 Contribution to Feed More

check presentation

The season is over and the numbers are in: Virginia Credit Union will provide $5,395 to FeedMore as part of Strike Out Hunger, the multi-year effort between the credit union, FeedMore and the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

For every strike out thrown by a Richmond Flying Squirrels pitcher, Virginia Credit Union makes a $5 donation. This year, Richmond Flying Squirrels pitchers threw 1,079 strike outs during the season that ended Sept. 3.

After five years, Strike Out Hunger has produced more than $25,000 in contributions from Virginia Credit Union.

The program calls attention to FeedMore’s important work. FeedMore is Central Virginia's hunger-relief leader made up of the Central Virginia Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and the Community Kitchen.

Back in August, representatives of FeedMore and staff from Virginia Credit Union met on the field for a check presentation during a game between the Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. But the final tally of VACU’s gift was not known until the season ended Monday.

In addition to Strike Out Hunger, members and employees of Virginia Credit Union also support FeedMore through food collections, volunteer work days and other efforts.

A financial cooperative serving more than 270,000 members, Virginia Credit Union offers a variety of affordable banking services, loans, mortgages, and free financial education resources, with a focus on helping people be more confident with their finances. Virginia Credit Union is an equal housing opportunity lender and is federally insured by NCUA.
