The donation was made through VACU's unique partnership with VCU Athletics, in which the credit union contributes to CHoR for every assist recorded by the teams during their regular season games.“We are proud to support Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU and their mission to connect young patients and their families with the world-class medical care and support they need,” said VACU President/CEO Chris Shockley. “VACU members and team members are passionate about supporting this cause because all of us have people in our lives or know people who have needed the life-saving and critical medical care provided at CHoR and our other local children’s hospitals.”This recent donation brings VACU's total contributions to CHoR to $341,500 during the past decade, underscoring the credit union's sustained commitment to children's health and wellness in the communities it serves. VACU employees have also participated in numerous employee-directed fundraisers for CHoR and other children’s hospitals in its service area, with VACU matching employee contributions in many cases. In addition to the financial support provided directly by VACU, the credit union is also a proud partner in state and national initiatives to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the Commonwealth and the nation through the Credit Unions for Kids organization, a nonprofit, industry-wide collaboration that has raised more than $200 million for CMN Hospitals since 1996.“We are deeply grateful to Virginia Credit Union for being a trusted partner in our community and a steadfast supporter of the children and families we serve,” said Children’s Hospital Foundation President and CEO Lauren Moore. “Their long-term commitment helps support families during incredibly difficult moments and ensures children across our region continue to receive the compassionate, world-class care they deserve.”VACU is deeply committed to charitable giving and community engagement, focusing its efforts on four key areas: children's health and wellness, financial education, food security, and community well-being. In 2025, the credit union donated almost $1.5 million to charitable and community causes; volunteered 2,100 hours at local nonprofits, schools, and community events; and reached more than 131,000 individuals through its financial education initiatives.
