teacher of the quarterMary Fehrens, an economics and personal finance teacher at Riverbend High School in Spotsylvania County, has been named a recipient of Virginia Credit Union’s Teacher of the Quarter award program.

Fehrens thrives by bringing her instruction alive through real-world examples, says Sue Venable Shelton, a fellow teacher who nominated her. She relies on information from industry or personal experiences and is a lifelong learner who stays current to consumer and business trends.

Virginia Credit Union established the Teacher of Quarter program to celebrate teachers who share critical personal finance information with their students. Nominations for future Teachers of the Quarter may be submitted through this form. Any K-12 teacher in Virginia who teaches the economics and personal finance SOLs in their classroom is eligible.

“We are glad to recognize these gifted educators,” said Chris Shockley, Virginia Credit Union’s President/CEO. “Financial education is fundamental, and it is exciting to hear the innovative ways teachers share these concepts in their classrooms.”
