Feed More Wins with Virginia Credit Union's Strike Out Hunger Campaign

VACU and Feed More present check for Strike Out Hunger campaign

Virginia Credit Union has continued its long-standing support of Feed More by presenting a check for $6,000 to the hunger-relief leader at the Diamond on Thursday evening. The contribution is part of the Strike Out Hunger program, a joint effort between Virginia Credit Union, Feed More, and the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

Virginia Credit Union, presented the check to Feed More, at the game against the Akron RubberDucks. The Strike Out Hunger program is now in its eighth year, and for every strikeout thrown by a Richmond Flying Squirrels pitcher, Virginia Credit Union donates $5 to Feed More.

The program is designed to draw attention to the important work Feed More does in the community. Made up of the Central Virginia Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, and the Community Kitchen, Feed More is Central Virginia's hunger-relief leader.

In addition to the Strike Out Hunger program, members and employees of Virginia Credit Union also support Feed More through food collections, volunteer work days, and other efforts. Combining Strike Out Hunger with other longstanding support, Virginia Credit Union has contributed more than $120,000 to Feed More in the last twenty-one years. That equates to nearly half a million meals.

"We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Feed More and the Richmond Flying Squirrels through the Strike Out Hunger program," said Chris Shockley, Virginia Credit Union President and CEO. "We are proud to support such an important organization that does so much to help our community."

“We have been honored by Virginia Credit Union’s 22-year relationship with our mission to nourish and empower our neighbors in need across Central Virginia,” said Doug Pick, President and CEO of Feed More. “The support that we’ve received through Strike Out Hunger directly benefits our hunger-fighting programs, helping to ensure that that every member of our community has access to the nourishment they need to lead happy, healthy lives.”

Virginia Credit Union is a financial cooperative serving more than 320,000 members, offering a variety of affordable banking services, loans, mortgages, and free financial education resources. The credit union is an equal housing opportunity lender and is federally insured by NCUA.
