VACU and The Hotel Weyanoke Help Farmville Foodbank

Farmville floodedVirginia Credit Union and The Hotel Weyanoke are joining other Farmville Businesses by donating $1,000 each, to help the Farmville Area Community Emergency Services (FACES) food pantry, which suffered extensive losses during the recent flash floods.

FACES is in need of at least $12,500 to get back up and running. Virginia Credit Union and The Hotel Weyanoke are issuing a corporate challenge to other area businesses to ask them to join in donating funds to support recovery efforts.

Community members can also visit the Virginia Credit Union branch located at 100 Midtown Ave., Farmville to make a contribution to the fund. Interested participants can also stop by the branch to donate packaged and canned goods to help re-stock the food pantry’s supply.

“This was such a shock to us. We had so much food that was destroyed by this flood,” said Linda Sakowski, vice president of FACES food pantry, “We operate completely by volunteers and donations, so we need as much help as possible.”

The Hotel Weyanoke and Virginia Credit Union teams quickly jumped on a call when they heard the news, to collaborate on ideas to help. “FACES and the people of Farmville have a special place in my heart,” said Sara Justice, Community Outreach coordinator at the credit union. “I’m from Farmville and I’m so proud to be part of an organization that wants to do whatever we can to be of assistance.”
