VACU Strikes Out Hunger with $5,160 to FeedMore
(Richmond, VA, September 6, 2017) – Virginia Credit Union has contributed $5,160 to FeedMore to help strike out hunger in Central Virginia.
VACU made a $5 donation for every strike out thrown by a Richmond Flying Squirrels pitcher during the 2017 season, which ended on September 5th. The Richmond Flying Squirrels threw 1,032 strike outs in 2017, placing them sixth in the Double-A Eastern League in team pitching.
Throughout the season, the Strike Out Hunger program drew attention to FeedMore’s important work in the community through frequent announcements at the Diamond. FeedMore is Central Virginia's hunger-relief leader made up of the Central Virginia Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and the Community Kitchen.
The Strike Out Hunger program is in its fourth year. Members and employees of Virginia Credit Union are generous supporters of FeedMore at document shredding events, employee food drives and other efforts. In August, VACU employees and their family members donated jars of peanut butter to FeedMore in exchange for tickets to a game.
