VACU Cardholders Now Have New Controls for Their Cards


(Richmond, Virginia – September 11, 2018) – Virginia Credit Union has released new enhancements to give debit and credit cardholders more control in the palm of their hand. A full feature card portal was developed by the credit union to give members greater ability to manage their cards more effectively.

The features are found in Virginia Credit Union’s online and mobile banking platforms under “Manage Cards.”

“While we’ve improved usability for our members, we’ve also made it possible for our card holders to more effectively detect and deter fraud,” explains Joe Lovasz, Virginia Credit Union Vice President of Cards and Payments. “The cardholder is really the first line of defense, and these tools make it easier for card holders to block attempts by fraudsters to use their card number by turning off their card, or to notice unauthorized transactions through alerts the user can set themselves.”

Virginia Credit Union members have $0 liability for transactions they did not make on their debit or credit cards. 

Among the card portal enhancements:

  • Turning your card on or off: Virginia Credit Union card holders can turn off their debit or credit card. The free feature gives peace of mind to those who fear they may have lost or temporarily misplaced their card. Or, if a major card compromise should occur at a national retailer, restaurant chain, or other outlet, members can use the on-off feature to protect their card from unauthorized fraud.
  • Managing credit card alerts. Setting up your card to receive notifications of transactions over a set amount, international transactions, declined transactions or card not present transactions.
  • Viewing transactions and making payments more easily in Online and Mobile Banking.
  • Reporting a lost, stolen, or damaged card.
  • Managing eStatements. Viewing your credit card statement or debit card transactions electronically.
  • Viewing and redeeming credit card rewards such as cash back rewards and flex rewards points.
  • Sending a memo to alert the credit union of planned travel outside the area where you plan to use your card.
The new release is part of an effort by Virginia Credit Union to release more frequent enhancements to its products and services.
