We’re here to serve our members – and help them make smart money choices

Virginia Credit Union is a financial cooperative owned by our members. We focus on helping them grow more confident about their money and the financial choices that support their lives.

We offer affordable products and services to meet our members’ varied needs and help them achieve their goals. We treat all members fairly, with dignity and respect, and look for ways to reach out to those underserved in our communities.

We emphasize financial education, which builds confidence and helps members succeed. We’re committed to serving our diverse communities, and our commitment and actions are consistent with the credit union philosophy of people helping people.

We communicate about our services in meaningful ways so members, potential members, lawmakers, regulators and the community can understand and appreciate our unique role as a credit union.

Service to Members

We aim to help all members gain greater control over their finances and take their money further. Examples of our services that help members’ economic and social well-being include:

  • Free checking with no minimum balance, no monthly service charge
  • Free online banking and bill pay; mobile banking and mobile deposit?
  • Free automatic savings programs to make saving easier
  • Low-cost credit cards with reasonable rates and fewer fees
  • Free credit counseling, budgeting assistance and debt management programs
  • Scholarships awarded annually to assist members with a college education
  • Free, convenient access in person, by phone and online
  • Personal loans for as little as $100
  • First-time homebuyers and other mortgage programs to help more members buy homes
  • Personal financial management programs available with no cost or obligation for consultation
  • Multilingual, interpretive service to help meet the needs of our diverse membership

Member Education

We are committed to sharing knowledge that helps people grow more confident about financial matters. Programs that support member education and advocacy include:

  • Free financial education seminars on home buying, budgeting, credit, identity theft and other topics
  • Newsletters, online tools and resources to help members make good financial choices
  • Youth financial education programs
  • One-on-one member education based on their individual needs

Service & Citizenship

An active partner in our communities, we provide financial education, volunteer service, monetary and in-kind contributions to various organizations. Good corporate citizenship helps raise the social and economic well-being of our communities, strengthens ties with our communities, and helps us reach out to those in greatest need of affordable financial services. Our public service activities and groups receiving financial or other support include:

  • Financial educational programs for students, teachers, work groups and the community
  • Communities in Schools
  • Local food banks
  • Virginia Council on Economic Education
  • Virginia Blood Services
  • Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals
  • Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign annual employee-giving program
  • Reynolds Community College, Middle College program
  • Virginia Mentoring Partnership
  • Free meeting space for member-related organizations

Credit Union Cooperative 

We work to build and strengthen credit unions by collaborating with others in the credit union community and national cooperative movement. We actively promote the credit union difference at all levels of government and in appropriate public forums. Our outreach includes:

  • Active participation, support and leadership in national and local credit union organizations
  • Joint public education and community service projects
  • Education of lawmakers
