New service will help members save
(Richmond, VA – November 14, 2012) -- Virginia Credit Union members who use their debit card for purchases have another way to jump start their savings.
When a member signs up for the new service, “Change Jar” automatically rounds up the amounts of debit card purchases to the nearest whole dollar and transfers the extra to the member’s savings account. Over time, those small transfers could lead to a significant increase in savings.
In response to member requests, Virginia Credit Union began offering Change Jar in September. In little over a month, more than 2,250 VACU members signed up, transferring more than $22,600 to their savings accounts through debit purchases. As one VACU member wrote on Facebook, “You can save without even knowing it!”
Change Jar complements other services that help members of the credit union save. For example, VACU continues to offer free checking with no minimum balance, plus savings accounts with no minimum balance requirements.
To sign up, members just need a checking account, a debit card and a savings account. Credit union members may sign up online, by calling the credit union or visiting a branch. Learn more about Change Jar.
