Members shine in VACU commercials

Have you noticed the recent Virginia Credit Union television and radio commercials? As owners in their not-for-profit cooperative, eleven members are helping to spread the word about credit union benefits.
Our sincere thanks to these members who represented their credit union so well. Watch for billboards in the Richmond area this summer and more television advertising in the fall.

Beware of e-mail “phishing” scams
Phishing is when scam artists, posing as reputable companies, send e-mails to try to trick you into sharing your personal or account information or even your Home Banking logon information. Be alert to e-mails pretending to come from Virginia Credit Union and other legitimate organizations. Scam artists are devious and use many different techniques to trick consumers. Be very cautious. We appreciate the many members who have alerted us to fraudulent e-mails.
Virginia Credit Union will never ask you to provide, update or verify personal or account information through unsolicited e-mail. Do not respond to any e-mail that asks for this information.
Visit our web site to get more information about phishing and other scams. Please call us if we can help you.

Students, join VACU now to apply for a $2,500 scholarship in 2008

Will someone in your family be in college next year taking at least nine credit hours per semester? If they’re not yet a Virginia Credit Union member, get them to join by September 29, 2007 to be eligible to apply for a scholarship for the 2008-2009 school year. Twenty-five $2,500 scholarships will be awarded.

Notice to Members from the Nominating Committee:
Nominations for the Board of Directors
As members-owners, you elect a Board of Directors to represent you. The Nominating Committee is currently seeking nominations for Virginia Credit Union’s Board of Directors. Three positions, each with a four-year term, are up for election at the Annual Meeting in April 2008. All Board members are volunteers who receive no compensation for their time.
To be eligible for consideration for nomination to the Board, a nominee must be a Virginia Credit Union member. He or she must be willing and able to make a personal commitment through consistent attendance and active participation at Board and committee meetings and educational sessions. Additional details are included with the application package.
If you or someone you know would like to be considered as a candidate for the volunteer Board of Directors, please request an application
package by sending
a request by e-mail or by calling Fay Browning at (804) 560-5619
or (800) 285-5051, ext. 5619. Candidates must submit an application by 5:00 p.m.
on September 14, 2007. The Nominating Committee will then review
applications and will communicate with nominees.
Early in 2008, members will receive information about the individuals whose names will be presented as nominees by the Nominating Committee. To allow for advance notice to members about the nominees, there are no nominations from the floor at the Annual Meeting.

Plan now for retirement income |

A
Message from the MEMBERS Financial Services Program
If you’re like most people, you concentrate on when you’ll retire. However, it’s much more important to ask yourself about how you’ll retire.
- Am I financially prepared to retire?
- What sources of income should I draw upon and when?
- How much income can I expect from my savings?
- How do I know if my income will last? Or run out?
- How should I handle the rollover of my 401(k) plan?
- What about rising healthcare costs, taxes, inflation, changes in interest rates and a fluctuating stock market?
The MEMBERS Financial Services Representatives located at Virginia Credit Union can work with you to answer these questions and build a plan for your retirement income. For more information, or to arrange a one-on-one consultation, call (804) 560-5643 or (800) 285-5051, ext. 5643.
