Thank you for 80 years!

Jane Watkins

Dear Members,

This year Virginia Credit Union celebrates 80 years of service. Since 1928, your credit union has focused on helping members get ahead financially. We sincerely hope that being part of your not-for-profit cooperative has in some way made a difference in your financial life.

In recognition of this special birthday, we hope you will share your comments and stories with us. How has your credit union helped you and your family? Is there something you have experienced here that is different from other financial institutions? We also welcome your suggestions about ways we can serve you better.

We would like to publish some of your comments in our newsletters or on our web site. If your comments are published, we would use only your first name and the city or town where you live. You may send us your comments online or through the mail. Please include your name, address and a daytime phone number so we can reach you if we have questions.

Thank you for using your credit union and for allowing us to serve your financial needs. We look forward to hearing from you.

Best Wishes,
Jane Watkins
President/CEO

Save and win in 2008!

Ready Set Save logoTo encourage more members to save, your credit union is offering, Ready, Set, Save, a chance to win one of five monthly prizes for $100.

You’re automatically entered to win by doing 3 things:

  1. Keep a Regular Savings account balance of $25 or more throughout the month
  2. Make at least one Regular Savings deposit for $10 or more that month and
  3. Don’t make any withdrawals from your Regular Savings account that month.

See the official Ready, Set, Save rules.

Consumer Scam Alerts

Tax refunds and rebates
New scams may use IRS tax refunds and economic stimulus rebates as bait. These scams may ask for account information to direct deposit your refund, or they may provide e-mail links to a bogus refund claim form.

Cell phone text messages
Scam artists are impersonating reputable companies and sending urgent text messages telling recipients to respond with credit and debit card numbers, personal identification numbers or other personal information.

Don’t fall for these or other requests for personal or account information. For information on scams and security tips, visit our Security Center.

Youth Savings Challenge: April 1 - 30, 2008

In recognition of National Credit Union Youth Week and to encourage young members to save, we’re having a special prize drawing.

Members under age 18 who make a deposit to a new or existing savings account during the month of April will automatically be entered in a drawing for one of ten $25 deposits. Winners will be notified by mail in May. This drawing is in addition to our “Ready, Set, Save!” program. See the official Youth Savings Challenge rules.

Encourage all young people in your family to participate. For members under 21, there is no minimum balance to earn dividends on a regular savings account.

Tips for helping young people save
Encourage your children and grandchildren to develop important life skills by teaching them to start saving early.

  • Take them to a branch to make deposits to their accounts.
  • Teach them to “pay themselves first” by having them save gift money.
  • Encourage them to set a goal then offer your own “savings match” program.
  • Celebrate the achievement of savings goals with age-appropriate prizes.

Visit the Education & Resources section for more information for kids and teens.

Get help to plan now for income during your retirement
A message from the MEMBERS Financial Services Program

There’s a big difference between not working and not worrying. Yet for millions of Americans, the worrying begins after the working ends. There’s inflation, fluctuating investment returns, taxes and skyrocketing costs for medicine and health care.

Retiring without financial stress requires a sound retirement income plan. The MEMBERS Financial Services Representatives located at Virginia Credit Union can work with you to build a plan that allows you to live without worrying whether you’ll outlive your savings. Together you’ll clarify your needs, consider the risks you face, select investment options, put your plan into action, and then measure your success.

To arrange a no-cost, no-obligation meeting at a convenient branch, call the MEMBERS Financial Services Representatives today. (804) 560-5643 or (800) 285-5051, ext. 5643
