Switch your checking account
Looking for a better checking account?
Ready to change your financial institution? Our step-by-step
instructions will help
you make a smooth transition to Virginia Credit Union checking.*
- Open your new account
Complete a membership/account
application and mail it to us or return it to one of our
branches with your opening deposit. Existing members
may also apply
by calling
Member Services.
For easy access to your funds,
be sure to request a SuperCheck
debit card. Don't forget to order your checks.
Our standard check is the Virginia Credit Union custom check,
which
is the most economical choice.
TIP: Consider
opening a savings
account or applying
for a line of credit and designate it as overdraft protection
for your checking account. You can apply for these services using
our membership/account
application.
- Stop using your
old account and let all your checks clear. Make
sure enough funds are available to cover any outstanding
items.
- Change any direct deposits or
automatic deductions
Notify
any company or organization that you want them to automatically
deposit funds into your new Virginia Credit Union checking account
(payroll, pension, retirement, certificates, investments). We
have several Direct Deposit forms available on our printable
forms web page.
Notify any company or organization that you want to
change your automatic deductions to
be drawn on your new Virginia Credit Union account (mortgage,
utilities, insurance, investments, internet service, health
club dues,
cell phone, charities).
TIP: You may want
to leave funds in your old account for any upcoming deductions
in case your requests aren't processed in time.
- Close your old account
Once all your outstanding items have cleared and any direct deposits
and automatic deductions are coming to your new Virginia Credit
Union account, notify your previous
financial institution that you wish to close your account. You may find our Request to Close Account form to be helpful.
TIP: Be
sure to destroy any unused checks, ATM or debit cards and deposit
slips.
If you have any questions about making the
switch or prefer to have any of these forms mailed to you, please contact
Member Services.
*Checking requires an opening deposit of $20
or more. |
