Deposits in Virginia Credit Union are federally insured. In the fall of 2008, the insurance protection was increased to $250,000 for all types of accounts through the end of 2009. Federal legislation then extended this increase through 2013.
Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) were already insured to $250,000 without any date limitation.
The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) is the U.S. Government agency that administers the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). NCUSIF provides coverage on deposits at federally insured credit unions, just as the FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) provides coverage for federally insured banks.
The NCUA web site offers a share insurance estimator to help you better understand your insurance coverage on your deposits. Learn more about NCUA share insurance online or please contact VACU Member Services for personal assistance with your Virginia Credit Union accounts.
The NCUA Consumer Assistance Center, operating from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (EDT) Monday through Friday, has insurance experts available to answer questions about the coverage provided by NCUA share insurance. The toll-free number for the NCUA Consumer Assistance Center is (800) 755-1030, extension 1.
